Jan Rattia is a Venezuelan-American artist exploring ideas around belonging, representation and otherness through photography. His installations present unresolved personal and cultural narratives that combine bodies, objects, and nature as commentary on the history of the medium, identity, and a fluid concept of home and place.
Jan was born in Caracas and moved to the US at age 20. He studied and worked in International Business before moving to New York in 2011. He is a former studio artist at Atlanta Contemporary and a fellowship recipient from Houston Center for Photography. Jan earned an MFA in Photography after attending ICP-Bard and Pratt Institute, where he has been teaching since 2021.
He lives in Brooklyn.
